Its tough to be undocumented these days. On May 19th Yolo County (think Davis) voted to suspend thier YCHIP health benifits to those that cannot show proof of citizenship (http://www.yolocounty.org/Index.aspx?page=1309). They are following suit with many other counties including Sacremento County. The state of the economy and particularly that of California is forcing these counties to come to terms with either thinning out the services offered to all (and incurring massive debt) or cutting those services to people that probably shouldn't be there to begin with.

Six propositions are part of the 2009-2010 California state budget and tax increase agreement (Propositions 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E and 1F). Proposition 1A: State Budget NO This proposition changes the way the California budget process works by increasing the amount of money it contributes into its “rainy day” fund and by limiting how this money can be used. Additionally it extends tax increase in the state by AT LEAST two years. In our troubling economic times...

Why the dislike?
A friend asked me the other day, "Why don't you like Nancy Pelosi?"
That's a fair question, so why not look into the situation and see what's what...maybe I haven't given the lady a fair shake, I mean she did block impeachment proceedings against Bush didn't she... maybe she cannot be all that bad...
In January 2007 she joined with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to condemn Bush's "troop surge plan". But only in words as the surge went ahead and congress didn't act against it.
My earlier blog hinted at Pelosi's 2007 Mideast tour with 6 other lawmakers. She delivered a "message of peace" from Prime Minister Ehud Olmert (Israel) to Syrian President Bashar Assad. Apparently the "message" was lost in translation as Olmert's office clarified what he had actually told Pelosi, "...although Israel is interested in peace with Syria, that country continues to be part of the axis of evil and a force that encourages terror in the entire Middle East". The office further commented that "Pelosi took part of the things that were said in the meeting, and used what suited her."
On abortion... I lean more liberal in this regard. I don't support legislation banning all abortions, BUT unlike Pelosi, I support the ban on Partial Birth Abortions as well as using any public funds to support/pay for abortions domestically or abroad.
She is a strong gun control supporter. Although I support current licensing measures, I disagree with Pelosi on the fact that gun manufactures should be held responsible for the misuse of guns.
And now for the biggy.... illegal immigration. This is a deal breaker for me. She supports immigration illegally and voted against the "Secure Fence Act of 2006"
So there ya have it. She isn't a supper crack pot as you would expect from the Bay area but her view's are definetely left leaning, falling squarely into the "the government can save us" camp".

Too heroic for the Britians
It's easier to silence positive stories out of Iraq then I once thought. Blame it on the ratings projections! The BBC announced that a proposed movie about the youngest surviving Vicoria Cross hero will be scrapped because, get this, "[it's] too positive about the conflict" and because it feared it would alienate members of the audience opposed to the war in Iraq. Anything except the sun can cause global warming... in fact they assert here that the sun "started" the process [on Mars] but it's actually dust that's making it worse.... even tho the temperature increases on Mars are equivalent to the temperature increases on Earth. Why ignore the most probable source?!?! You know that giant nuclear furnace at the heart of our solor system... Why ignore corrilating facts?!?! Whats the probability that Human interaction on Earth produces the same temperature increases on our planet that dust storms are currently doing to mars?? Some collection of pointy headed beard scratchers needs to pull thier heads out....

She is off to prove to the world that century old hatreds can be solved with flowered head scarf and a black abaya robe and a stern talking too!
In a shocking statement she surpised the world by stating "she hoped to rebuild lost confidence between Washington and Damascus and will tell Syrian leaders that Israel will talk peace with them only if Syria stops supporting Palestinian militants". Wow... I wonder why nobody else bothered to mention that to Syria/Iran/Palestine... What a publicity whore.

Oh noes.... when a story like this appears in the NY Times you gotta wonder. The guy is obviously a fake. His personal energy usage (and waste!) is a clear indicator of this fact. And now that the Academy (er the one for movies, not for science) loves him then I am even further convinced of his culpability in this massive fraud. If you talk the talk then you better walk the walk...
And this also, an expedition to the North Pole was called off due to ... thats right, COLD
Wasnt it just 20 or 30 years agon when global cooling was going to kill us all?
Just too damn hard to keep track of all this ...
Its pretty interesting how the weather effects global warming news...... things seemed to die down last month when everyone was so damn cold, but with the recent warmth Man Made Global Warming is back in the news. I did have to dig thru quit a few stories to get to this one http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/main.jhtml?xml=/opinion/2007/03/01/do0102.xml
I am just amazed at how the "scientific" community remains so obstinant. With all the failings in science beliefs why is there the impression that "the debate is over"? Well I guess part of it is that no politition looking for a vote would be left out, and I guess another large point is that with those polititions come HUGE grants. Sad state of affairs in the science community but I guess the "worlds oldest proffesion" applies to ALL proffessions.
and yes... this entry is in the political catagory

It appears that the Republicans are shelving any attempt to pass immigration reform. "
I'm sick of the race card being played here as well... Our limited resources for aid in social services are being consumed at an alarming rate. History was never my favorite subject, but there are many lessons to be learned in the past from uncontrolled borders, and encouraging lawless immigration. I will still vote for local elections but I will most like not vote for the federal positions or perhaps I will vote Democrate. There is only one thing that these .. er um.. people understand, you have to hit them where it hurts.
I was rather stunned (and amused!) that ABC would create a miniseries critical of President Bill Clinton and his aids in the context of how the handled the events leading up to 9/11. Clearly they wanted to stir a buzz and get some exposure. In other words they wanted to generate some publicity that would translate directly into more viewers. I was not even sure if I was going to watch the show, not because of the movie itself, but actually I have more or less abandoned the big networks programming (one major exception is LOST).
Well in a not so surprising turn of events, Dems are urging ABC to pull the movie. Wasn’t it just a few years back that Tom Daschle called the decision to cancel CBS's "The Reagans" Appalling? In all farness the Reps were all in arms about that miniseries as well so looks like both sides cannot help but to behave like little children.
